KERB Food is located in a former cinema on Potsdamer Platz. The building has been revitalized and transformed into a vibrant culinary hotspot. Vintage-inspired lamps reminiscent of cinema entrances refer to the building’s former use. In the central atrium, RGBW light lines arranged in a grid pattern refer to the lighting of the entrance pavilion of the nearby Potsdamer Platz S-Bahn station. Integrated linear LEDs illuminate stairs, handrails and terrace railings, guiding visitors through the various areas of the food hall. The counters of the kitchens, café bars and kiosks are highlighted by a surrounding frame and accentuated by light coves. Soft backlighting emphasizes the signage of the various bars and kiosks, while discreet spotlights draw attention to tables and displays. The multi-layered design combines atmosphere, orientation and identity, creating a colorful, modern food hall with a high quality of stay. It harmonizes the tradition of the location with fresh, urban energy.

Recessed downlights highlight dining tables, wall-mounted picture lights showcase the artworks while Decorative wall-mounted fixtures add a touch of ambiance throughout the space.

Berlin, Germany

REFURBISHMENT OF THE HOTEL LOBBY AND ADJACENT AREAS

The Hotel Adlon Kempinski is one of the most luxurious and well-known hotels in Germany. It is located in the Dorotheenstadt in Berlin’s Mitte district on the boulevard Unter den Linden 77, neighboring the Brandenburg Gate at Pariser Platz. The hotel was first established in October 1907 and got burned down in 1945, which was later demolished except for one side wing. It was re-inaugurated on August 23, 1997 and followed the tradition of the original establishment.

The hotel’s lobby and reception areas were extensively renovated in 2016 with an investment of 6 million euros. In the course of this renovation, the lighting scheme of the rebuilt hotel was also updated from scratch. The intention of the new lighting scheme was to reveal the spatial hierarchies of the lobby and adjacent areas, thereby creating a visual calm and a clear spatial structure that allows a holistic spatial effect/experience to be created.
In accordance with the surfaces and the color concept of the lobby (comprising of warm gold and silver tones), lighting in warm color temperature and excellent color rendition was chosen to naturally emphasize the materials and colors of the interior. Thus, the interplay of light and surfaces creates a light-flooded yet subtle ambiance in the hotel’s lobby and foyer. At the core of the technical lighting upgrade was the re-design of the existing vaulted cassette ceilings, which was built over a cross-shaped floor plan.

Each of the approx. 400 gold leaf cassettes were illuminated with cove lighting using daylight-dynamic light that adjusts the color temperature to the course of the day from warm to cool white. The new lighting scheme thus enables a high degree of flexibility in variable lighting scenes in the lobby. The use of modern luminaires with high-quality LED technology allows energy-efficient lighting with low maintenance requirements.

Mexico City, Mexico

Mexico’s leading baseball team ‘Los Diablos Rojos del Mexico’ will have a new home stage with 13,000 covered and 3,000 seated seats and various public venues. The new stadium is located in the Magdalena Mixhuca sports complex in the Mexico City area.
The expressive roof consists of a light steel construction and is wrapped with PTFE textile material which is completely backlit. The stadium roof spans the main grandstand and at the same time four large public spaces with different functions. A large public square, a multi-functional hall for public cultural events and rooms for retail trade are integrated in this building complex. In addition to the illumination of the roof for a monumental long-distance effect, the lighting concept includes the greatest possible flexibility of the lighting in relation to a variety of different events held in these rooms. The lighting system meets the highest standards in terms of temporary illumination and energy efficiency.

Pforzheim, Germany

In summer 2005 the “Schmuckwelten – Pforzheim” was inaugurated. Located directly in the heart of the “Gold City”, which is the centre of the German jewellery industry since the historic times (80% of the German jewellery production is manufactured here). On an area of 3,500 square metres in the revitalized “Industriehaus”, the theme of jewellery and watches is impressively staged and presented to a broad and interested specialist public. The unique European display window for jewellery production is rounded off in a sophisticated way by the inspiring light art of Yann Kersalé with AIK – Expéditions Lumière. The lighting installation was designed as an innovative combination of fluorescent lamps and RGB LEDs. The colour depth and authenticity of the LEDs thus define a new, fascinating light space. The office tower of the Sparkasse Pforzheim Calw, a striking urban landmark in the cityscape, is exclusively lit by monochrome, dynamic white LEDs. The building is given a new and deeper meaning by the reference to the three rivers in the form of a moving and glittering water surface created by programming the LEDs.

Frankfurt am Main, Germany

Surrounded by the motorway, airport access roads and ICE railway tracks, the floating futuristic form of ‘The Squaire’ evokes a fascinating astonishment in the viewer. The building houses two Hilton Hotels with a total of approx. 600 rooms. The interior design by JOI-Design reflects the dynamic outer shape of the building and creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, which promises the guest a quiet and pleasant place to relax.
A dynamic and at the same time inviting quality of lighting was crucial to emphasize the richness of the surface materials in the hotel’s rooms, while creating a warm and relaxing lighting atmosphere.
The wide range of materials and colours used for the interior decoration was accentuated with multiple luminaires to highlight the shapes and surfaces individually. The general lighting is provided by adjustable halogen spots, which creates warm white light accents on the polished stone floor. The light in combination with a variety of fine surface materials thus conjures up an unmistakable atmosphere in the hotel lobby and hotel rooms.

Hameln, Germany

Eisenhüttenstadt, Germany

The shopping centre on the outskirts of the city centre of Eisenhüttenstadt has an area of ca. 45,000m². In the course of renovation measures to redesign and renew the shopping centre, the existing lighting in the public areas was to be redesigned. However, the financial resources available for this measure were very limited.
The aim of the lighting concept was to supplement the very dominant horizontal orientation of the single-storey shopping streets with vertical elements articulated as fixed luminous points. These vertical elements accentuate the entrances and crossroads at the center and thus create a visual structure of the approximately 500 long shopping street. To save costs, existing pendant luminaires were removed from selected points in the mall, converted and repositioned as luminaire clusters at the central intersections and entrances of the mall. The pendant luminaires combined to form clusters were supplemented with UV-resistant sandblasted tubes of polycarbonate of different lengths.
